DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURTS?

Generally not. It is normal to feel a mild tingle or dull ache or a pressure or very very rarely a zingy sensation as the acupuncturist adjusts the needle. This sensation is known as deqi sensation ( feeling  qi-energy moving ) If you do feel in any discomfort please inform your acupuncturist who will able to adjust or remove that particular needle. Acupuncture needles used are fine so people generally don’t feel them being inserted. When  needles are already inserted usually people feel relaxed. Cupping leaves sometimes a bruise that can last for about a week /10 days  generally, but normally fades after a few days.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS?

As acupuncture involves the insertion of needles there will sometimes be a small bruise where the needle was inserted. Occasionally, people can feel dizzy or tired after a treatment, but this passes quickly.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE A SESSION?

Clients should not consume caffeine, alcohol, heavy meal , spicy meals, or empty stomach ( last meal should've been consumed at least 2 hours prior to the treatment ) Do not brush off your tongue.

WHAT TO WEAR DURING A SESSION?

Please wear loose comfortable clothes

WHAT ARE THE LONG TERM BENEFITS OF ACUPUNCTURE?

Some of the key long-term benefits of acupuncture include pain relief and pain management, improvements to mental health, improvements to sleep quality, improvements in musculoskeletal and for some, a reduction in the reliance on western medication.

HOW LONG DO THE BENEFITS OF ACUPUNCTURE LAST FOR?

The effects of acupuncture can last anywhere from a few days or after several sessions, few weeks or even several months, but this differs from client to client and is dependent on both the condition that they are being treated for and the severity of their symptoms.

HOW LONG TO CONTINUE ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENTS FOR HOW MANY SESSION?

In order to maximise the potential benefits of acupuncture, recommendations are have at least 6 sessions to see mayor shifts, at least 1 session per week. As Acupuncture works in a cumulative way, it can take a few acupuncture sessions before you begin to see the long term benefits especially in acute conditions so it’s important to make it clear. In chronic conditions the clients must be aware it may take longer than 6 sessions. But as we all react differently it s not always the rule of thumb.  Your acupuncturist  can assess your condition as we go along treatment by treatments so making recommendations on how often you need keep acupuncture to maintain its  benefits. Eventually, overtime you may be able to have sporadic treatments, for example once every 2 weeks to once a month as-needed to maintain the benefits long-term.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO MAXIMISE THE ACUPUNCTURE BENEFITS:

-REST- After an acupuncture appointment, it’s important that clients rest and take it easy for a while, avoiding stressful situations and strenuous activity. also would be beneficial to have early night sleep.

-KEEP WARM-  Keep warm after acupuncture as the body needs warmth  Some clients report feeling chilled after an appointment, which can continue throughout the day. Keeping warm may simply make you feel more comfortable.

-EAT WELL- After acupuncture, it is recommended that you eat healthy foods to help promote elimination of toxins from the body. Plenty of seasonal vegetables and fruits should be your N1 choice always.

-AFTER A TREATMENT YOU COULD AVOID- Firstly, clients need to stay hydrated after an acupuncture session and both alcohol and caffeine should be avoided because they do the opposite, so it would be counterproductive to drink such beverages at this stage. I strongly recommend that you drinks plenty of water which will help to flush the toxins out of their body.

-OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO ALONG SIDE ACUPUNCTURE-  Whilst acupuncture is effective on its own, other times interventions such as physiotherapy, osteopathy, counselling, exercises, could maximise your outcomes, depending on the conditions. When assessing your condition, also the acupuncturist may considers if another interventions, used in conjunction with acupuncture, could be beneficial.
